Organized Uplifting Resources & Strategies (OURS) was founded by Commissioner ErNiko Brown in McCormick County, SC to empower Black and Brown people and increase the resources going to rural communities for environmental justice. The organization has a track record of educating BIPOC folks about sustainable agriculture and climate adaptation. OURS is growing its ability to empower rural, BIPOC and low-income women to become leaders in the transition from extractive, polluting industry to a green economy built on renewable energy and economic justice.
Commissioner Brown, is also the Environmental Justice & Disaster Management Chairwoman for the SC NAACP State Conference. In the past 15 years she has led political, community, advocacy & civic engagement efforts at the local, state, and federal levels. She uses her lived experience and leadership skills to craft strategic vision around strengthening community capacity building & mobilization through a lens of equity. She is a veteran organizer committed to making the local to global connection that lifts the voices of impacted community members.
